Number crunching...chomp chomp

Since I will be out on my own fairly soon, I have been trying to get a handle on my future expenses. I have made a rough budget outlining my weekly and monthly expenses depending on certain variables, namely, what my rent will be. Oh yes, and there's that little thing called income...

But I digress.

I've also started tallying up how much it will cost to set up a new place. Now granted, I'm not looking to live anywhere swanky, nor am I a slave to things like the Pottery Barn. But, I do expect to have the basic necessities. You know, like a shower curtain, toaster, coffeepot, and the like. Sure, I'll be able to appropriate some things from here when I do leave, but there will be much more that I'll have to get.

Hey...getting all that stuff at once kinda adds up! Luckily, I am the Queen of Bargain Hunting (thank you frugal New England immigrant upbringing). I refuse to eat ramen noodles, they are just too darned fatty and salty. However, I think my AeroBed is going to make a lovely sofa for awhile. Well, provided Miss Roxie doesn't think it's an oversized chewtoy.

Embarking on an entirely new life, especially one that I didn't expect at all is pretty daunting. However, I am trying to keep my head straight and taking things one step at a time. It's my nature to try to plan for things and arm myself with as much knowledge as possible beore I make a big move or decision. Of course, we all know shit happens sometimes that you don't expect. However, preparing for the things I can anticipate gives me comfort.

Well, I'm off now to surf the IKEA Direct Shopping website. Yes, feel for me people. Michigan has no real live IKEA stores.

I too feel your pain. We are also IKEA-less, unless you consider a two hour drive convenient.
I also must applaud how well you are doing with this whole situation. Bull by the horns comes to mind.

I second Jo's last comment....very admirable.
One question does come to mind: in light of that last post, should you still be the one moving out? Seems to me, you're doing all the work making all the change, and most of this is his issue.

Shower curtain? Bah! Oh, wait, you're hoping to live somewhere nicer than a Russian dorm. Okay, I get it. Sending smiles and best wishes.
